Fish-based omega-3 oils

Applications

MarisOmega specializes in natural triglyceride fish oils for applications that require a clean taste and oxidative stability, such as infant formula and fortified health foods. Our oils also have applications in chewable soft gel capsules and novel formats such as gummies and liquids. Get in touch to learn which of our products best suit your needs.

Sourcing and manufacturing

Our fish oils come from healthy fish stocks that are caught using sustainable catching methods. Our products are produced in state-of-the-art facilities that meet all local and international regulations, including good manufacturing practices and food hygiene standards.

All products undergo rigorous third-party testing, in addition to the testing performed throughout the extraction and refining processes. Our up-to-the-moment expertise means we know what to test for, and should a new contaminant emerge, we’ll be prepared.

Our sourcing and qualification approach for omega-3 ingredients goes beyond checking for specification compliance. We take a 360° view, considering

  • the primary raw materials from which the ingredient is obtained
  • all processing steps along the value chain
  • processing aids and additives
  • contaminant removal and product safety
  • regulatory implications
  • ESG criteria

We offer various types of premium quality fish oils, all of which must meet the strict quality criteria we set. As an example, see below the supply-chain set-up and quality criteria for MarisDHA Fish Oil.

Case study: MarisDHA Fish Oil

Species’ IUCN Red List rating, MSC

Sustainable sources

MarisDHA Fish Oil  is sourced from skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis), a species considered most sustainable  under the IUCN Red List scheme.

Tuna stock ratings acc. MSC Germany report

Sustainable fishing grounds

Fish are caught in FAO catching areas 51 and 57 (Indian Ocean), a region where skipjack stocks are confirmed to be healthy. Fishing vessels are registered for compliance with the EU’s strict food safety regime.

Purse seine, MSC

Sustainable catching methods

For avoiding by-catch, long line method and fish-aggrevating devices are strictly omitted. Traditional purse-seine catching instead ensures that only the targeted species is captured.

Product release

Before release, the final product is tested internally and by third-party laboratories for specification compliance. Particular emphasis is put on the oil’s organoleptic assessment and its oxidative status as well as on strict limits for process contaminants and persistent organic pollutants.

Gentle refining and short-path distillation

Next, the oil is refined in a GMP-designed facility that uses short-path distillation for highly efficient low-temperature contaminant removal. The refining is carried out gently without chemical modification, leaving the natural triglyceride composition unaltered.

EU-certified food processing

Directly after the catch, fish filets are processed into canned food for human consumption, and crude fish oil is extracted from the remaining fish heads. The fish-processing facilty sets strict limits for raw-material freshness and contaminant control. The factory operates under EU safety, health and environmental law. Its HACCP system is regularly audited.

Outstanding quality

Manufacturing practice and control exceeds industry standards at every level of the supply chain. The result is a fully natural, ultra-clean DHA oil with excellent organoleptic properties and lowest levels of oxidation and contaminants. The oil meets highest standards for traceability, sustainability and safety.
